Jerry Léonide has been playing piano and studying classical music since age 8. But his aptitude for improvised music and fondness for the rhythms of his native island home of Mauritius (off the coast of Africa) drew him to something closer to a jazz-world fusion, which can be heard on his first record, “The Key,” released this year.
Léonide takes the stage in Kalamazoo as part of The Gilmore's 2014-15 Rising Stars Series, introducing young talent and supporting the next generation of great performers.
